'Lectures on Popular and Scientific Subjects' is a series of public lectures delivered by James Sinclair, 14th Earl of Caithness. He was a Scottish Liberal politician, scientist and inventor. As an inventor, he is remembered today for his invention of an artificial leg, with which he won a prize at the French Exhibition in Paris in 1866.
