My Southern Home: Or, the South and Its People

This book is an interesting memoir describing the relationships between black and white Southerners before and after the Civil War from different perspectives. At the beginning of the book, the author describes the plantation life and how slaves enjoyed pulling one over on their masters. Yet, as the book continues, the tone shifts to the horrors of slavery and racism.
