The author of this book was a colleague of this famous American surgeon. Dr McClellan was known not only as an excellent teacher of the practice of surgery but also as a highly-skilled and pioneering surgeon too. One of his specialism was ophthalmic surgery – he was the first person ever to remove the lens from a human eye.
