"The Daughter of Virginia Dare" is a novel by the American writer Mary Virginia Wall. Historically, Virginia Dare was the first child born on the American continent. She was born in the mysterious colony of Roanoke, which later became famous for its strange disappearance. Virginia was the granddaughter of John White, the governor of the colony, who left his family for three years as he went to England for fresh supplies. Upon returning, he found no traces of almost 100 colony inhabitants, including his daughter and granddaughter. No one knows what happened to the settlers. Yet, their fate has become a rich source for numerous works of fiction. Wall speculates what happened with the first white American child in this novel. In her version, Virginia gets adopted by an Indian tribe and starts a new and interesting life there.
