Sir John Kincaid of the rifle brigade served for a time as lieutenant in the North York militia. During his tenure, he was able to experience a number of adventures alongside his fellow soldiers. First, giving an overview of his family and estate, Kincaid then moves on to narrating various snapshots of what he saw and lived through in the army. This book not only allowed him to tell his story, but also made the service more accessible to civilian readers.
