H.G. Wells' 'The Wonderful Visit' is a satirical novel that tells the story of an angel who spends just over a week in Victorian England, where he is mistakenly identified as a bird and shot by an ornithologist. Cared for by the vicar who shot him, the angel's visit is marred by his growing dismay at the world he encounters, including Victorian customs and institutions. Despite his charming demeanor, the angel is denounced as a socialist as he becomes increasingly critical of local mores.
