All God'S Chillun Got Wings

This is an expressionist play about miscegenation inspired by the old Negro spiritual. Ella and Jim are childhood sweethearts both are called «Painty Face» and «Jim Crow» respectively. But as they grow older, society separates them. Ella develops a dislike for her childhood friend who is attempting and failing to pass the bar exams. She berates him for aspiring to be white and wanting to marry her. Will he eventually marry her? Will the societal view impinge on their marriage, if they eventually do marry?
