Skinner's Dress Suit is a satirical novel by Henry Irving Dodge. It revolves on the lives of a progressive family with great ambitions. Honey Skinner idolizes her successful husband. When he announces to her that he is going to ask for a raise, she has no doubt that he'll get it. But his timing is off as the firm's biggest client announces he will not be renewing his contract. He doesn't get the raise, but he's too embarrassed to tell his wife the truth. Meanwhile, she starts spending money they don't have, even buying a new dress suit for him and a new outfit for herself so as to attend a fancy party. Meanwhile, business is bad and Skinner loses his job. The tailor goes after him for payment for the clothes, and Honey still doesn't know about the true state of their finances.
